Simple Present Tense

The present tense is an actions happening right now.

How to Form the Present Simple in the Positive Sentences:

In present simple tense when we talk about more than one person we do not change the verb.
  • we used it with pronouns I, You, We, They
FOR EXAMPLE: I walk to school everyday.   You walk to school everyday.

  • The verb changes only in third person singular (he, she, it) we add s after the verb.

FOR EXAMPLE: walk - walks

She walks to school everyday.

Subject + verb

First-person singular: I

I walk to school everyday.

Second-person singular: you

You walk to school everyday.

Third-person singular: He/she/it

She walks to school everyday.


First-person PLURAL: we

We walk to school everyday.

Second-person PLURAL: you

You walk to school everyday.

Third-person PLURAL: they

They walk to school everyday.

 
The es suffix is used when the verb ends in the letters ss, sh, ch, x, z.

For EXAMPLES:

verb ends in the letters ch.

For Example: catch – catches        Sam catches butterflies.

verb ends in the letters sh.

For Example: wash, washes          She washes her clothes.

verb ends in the letter x

For Example: mix, mixes.           The chocolate mixes well into strawberry frostings.

verb ends in the letters/ zz.

For Example: buzz, buzzes          It buzzes to my ear every night.

 

When the verb ends in a consonant y we change y to i and add -es.

For Example: study, studies         She studies every night.
